It is your decision whether or not to impose limitations for your patrons. Think about what you, as library staff, want to be responsible for in terms of staff handling, and fiscal responsibility (postage for returning items, replacement costs if items are lost, etc.).
Yes! Not all lenders are willing to supply their A/V items, but many are happy to share!
Shipping/delivery times vary by lender but most arrive within 1-4 weeks. MSL will notify you via email when your items have shipped.
Due dates are determined by the lending library so loan periods vary. Renewals are allowed by most lenders. Please ask for a renewal within a week of the current due date (1-10 days before due). Contact MSL for renewals, via email or call 287-5641.
Please send/mail your items directly back to their home libraries. Please notify MSL when an ILL is returned so we can update any transaction records appropriately. If you need a return address for a lender, contact us!
MSL follows the Interlibrary Loan Code of the US (link to ALA ILL code) and all libraries that borrow through us must adhere to it as well. The borrowing library is responsible for the item from the time it leaves the home library until it returns to the home library, so if an item is lost in transit your library may need to pay for the cost of a replacement. If your patron has lost the item, you may pass the cost of replacement onto them, but your library is ultimately responsible should the patron fail to pay. The same applies for items that are damaged while in your library’s care. Multiple lost/damaged items may result in a temporary suspension of borrowing privileges.
We ask that you start your search for multiple copies by using the MEFIND listserv (include link). This allows you to broadcast your requests to other subscribing libraries. If the number of copies you receive via this method falls short, we can try to find the remaining number of copies for you.
