Maine State Library LibGuides: Death Education

Welcome to the Maine State Library LibGuides! We strive to include as much useful and up-to-date information as possible. If you aren't able to find what you're looking for or discover something that requires updating, please let us know!

Main Content

Death education programming includes topics like: end of life planning, hospice care, living wills/advance health directives, talking to children about death, green burials/cemeteries, obituary writing, Maine's Death with Dignity law,  and author talks (there are several authors in Maine who have written about their grief).

“A Death cafe is a group directed discussion of death with no agenda, objectives, or themes…. with an objective to increase awareness of death with a view to helping people make the most of their (finite) lives." --Leona Oceania, Die Well Death Education

Facilitators are there to keep things on track, keep the conversation going, answer questions, and correct misinformation. Often attendees have lots of questions.  A true Death Cafe does not have topics, agendas, or presentations. It is simply a group guided conversation about death.

Created by Holly Williams at the Bangor Public Library (holly.williams@bangorpubliclibrary.org), this LibGuide contains resources for libraries looking to provide resources and programming around death education and support.
